Nagging injuries this outdoor season, starting with a persistent ankle strain suffered at the World Indoor Championships and a current hamstring tendonitis problem, have slowed Nicolas' preparations and forced him to withdraw from a few European meets this month including this week's Rome Golden League as well as the Tsiklitiria Super Grand Prix in Greece. Nicolas is receiving treatment in Montreal on the inflamed tendon. Coach Daniel St-Hilaire believes skipping the European meets is the best course of action in this Olympic year, focusing instead on treatment and resting the hamstring. That said it is expected that Nicolas will be ready to defend his 100m Canadian championship in Victoria on July 10. galako62904@yahoo.com |

Slow times and headwinds have been the order of the day this past week in Italy, as once again both Nicolas and the field failed to provide a notable result. Nicolas explained he has been feeling a little under the weather, and is looking forward to returning home for a little rest. Feeling less than 100%, he chose to not contest the 200m. Meeting Napoli, June 8, 2004: 100 serie A: 1. Torrieri 10.32; 2. Collio 10.38; 3. Saddler (Usa) 10.39; 4. Williams R. (Jam) 10.42; 5. Macrozonaris (Can) 10.42; 6. Checcucci 10.50. 7. Nicolas won a low key 100m race in Italy yesterday clocking 10.51 seconds running into a headwind (-1.0 m/s). He finished ahead of American Greg Saddler and Jamaica's Ricardo Williams. He closes out his current European stay tomorrow in Napoli, Italy, where he is scheduled to run both the 100 and 200m. Everything is on track and progressing according to plan for Nicolas as we get closer to the big show in August. Following a brief return to Montreal after tomorrow he will once again travel to Europe to contest several 100m races prior to the Canadian Championships in early July. galako62904@yahoo.com |
